THE INTERREG MED Green Growth Community successfully organized its 2nd transnational event on the Roles and Opportunities for competitiveness in public and private sectors.

Over 50 representatives from companies, public institutions, NGOs, international organizations and other stakeholders from the MED area gathered at the 2ndINTERREG MED Green Growth Transnational Event. The event was organized in Rome on the 12th and 13th October 2017, to debate about the emerging opportunities for green competitiveness in the MED area and about the role of various public and private actors to exploit these opportunities.

The event was hosted by the Forum CompraVerde – BuyGreen and represented an opportunity to meet and discuss about policies, implementation tools, environmental criteria, and specific sectorial issues about the Green Growth. The INTERREG MED Green Growth Community 2nd transnational event offered its participants a tailor-made programme with interventions from key stakeholders and participatory sessions to debate about the actors and opportunities that can enhance the competitiveness of the MED area.

Participatory facilitation methods such as Open Space Technology, participative roundtables, carousel sessions were organized to stimulate the contribution of all the participants and the creation of authentic spaces of exchange.

During the first day, a participatory workshop was organized to discuss about the question: “how can we capitalize the MED Green Growth community projects and tools to advance EU competitiveness policies?”

For the second day, a roundtable was held to discuss about the “WIN4 strategy: networks and tools for Green Competitiveness”, to take into consideration and gather the different perspectives and contributions of Quadruple-helix representatives (presentations available on our website). At the roundtable intervened:

  • Matteo Caroli – Professor at LUISS Business School: “Research opportunities for Green Growth”
  • Peter Defranceschi – Head of Brussels Office of ICLEI: “The role of local Public Authorities”
  • Vesna Žepič Bogataj – Representative of Tecos cluster: “The perspective and role of no profit-organizations”
  • Ilaria Lenzi – Representative of San Pellegrino: “Corporate approaches towards sustainability”
  • Carlo Drago – Innovation and research at IBM: “Green Growth: the perspective for large companies”

Four key cross-thematic topics of Green Growth were discussed in the Carousel session, to make the community work together and horizontally:

  • Sustainable management of the territory and its resources
  • Approaches for green production
  • Tools for green consumption
  • Green buildings

The event was also an opportunity for all the participants to meet stakeholders and representatives of Public Authorities and Local Entities, Research and Academy, SMEs and large enterprises: through the “green contacts” multilevel actors met to foster common actions and initiatives for Green Growth.

The first Green Growth lab was held in the context of the event, to sum up mid-term results and expectations of the whole community.
